Teen Advisory Board

GirlsUP Girls who have completed two summer sessions of the GirlsUP program and who are at least 12 years old have the opportunity to develop their true leadership potential by joining the GirlsUP Teen Advisory Board. The GirlsUP Teen Advisory Board furthers GirlsUP’s commitment to creating an organization that is truly “of the girls, by the girls and for the girls.”

Through the GirlsUP Teen Advisory Board, girls can build on their GirlsUP experience by taking on substantive organizational responsibilities including participating in and planning ongoing community service events, serving as mentors to younger GirlsUP Girls, acting as spokespersons to the media and being spirited role models in their communities. GirlsUP Teen Advisory Board members also provide our staff and Board of Directors with candid and invaluable feedback on our programming to ensure that we are addressing the issues girls really want and need us to address. Additionally, GirlsUP Teen Advisory Board members participate in quarterly board meetings and provide summer program support. It’s a lot of work but also a lot of fun.

Service on the GirlsUP Teen Advisory Board also makes GirlsUP Girls eligible for selection to the teen advisory board of an exciting international campaign “uniting girls to change the world” sponsored by our partner organization, the United Nations Foundation. If selected, our GirlsUP Girls have the privilege of serving a one-year term as a Teen Advisor to the United Nations campaign, where they will have the opportunity to meet and work with a small group of American girls from across the country to raise awareness about issues facing adolescent girls in some of the world’s most disadvantaged communities.
